Manuel Cruz
Manuel Cruz (Porto, Portugal, 1974), holds a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Porto. Most of his work is related to Industrial Mathematics and to promote effective development based on Mathematical Technologies for the European Industry. Since 2007 he has participated, organized, and promoted several European Study Groups with Industry (ESGI) held in Portugal. As consequence of his engagement in solving industrial problems, he managed several projects of technology transfer between mathematics and industry. In 2015 he was one of the promoters of the Portuguese Network of Mathematics for Industry and Innovation (PT-MATHS-IN) where he served as elected president from 2016 till 2020. Since 2019, he is an elected member of the Executive Board of the European Service Network for Mathematics in Industry and Innovation (EU-MATHS-IN), a Dutch Stichting that currently encompasses the National Networks of 20 European Countries. In 2022 he was nominated as member of the OpenDesk Executive Committee, which is the One-Stop-Shop to connect the European Industry to the main European research centres in Industrial Mathematics. From an academic point of view, he is Professor at the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto for more than 20 years, where he stands as the Coordinator of the Laboratório de Engenharia Matemática since 2014. During this period, he authored and published books, scientific papers, and technical reports performing several presentations in both academic and industrial environments.

Manuel Cruz (Porto, Portugal, 1974), é doutorado em Matemática Aplicada pela Universidade do Porto. A maior parte do seu trabalho está relacionado com a Matemática Industrial e com a promoção da transferência de Tecnologias Matemáticas para a Indústria Europeia. Desde 2007 tem participado, organizado e promovido vários European Study Groups with Industry (ESGI) realizados em Portugal. Como consequência do seu envolvimento na resolução de problemas industriais, geriu vários projectos de transferência de tecnologia entre a matemática e a indústria. Em 2015, foi um dos promotores da Rede Portuguesa de Matemática para a Indústria e Inovação (PT-MATHS-IN), onde desempenhou o cargo de Presidente de 2016 a 2020. Desde 2019, é membro eleito do Conselho Executivo da European Service Network for Mathematics in Industry and Innovation (EU-MATHS-IN), uma fundação holandesa que actualmente engloba as Redes Nacionais de 20 países europeus. Em 2022, foi nomeado membro do Comité Executivo da OpenDesk, um balcão único que permite à indústria europeia conectar-se com os principais centros de investigação europeus em Matemática Industrial. Do ponto de vista académico, é Professor no Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto há mais de 20 anos, onde é Coordenador do Laboratório de Engenharia Matemática desde 2014. Adicionalmente é autor e editor de diversos livros, artigos científicos e relatórios técnicos quase todos relacionados com a utilização de métodos matemáticos para a resolução de problemas industriais.
