Bruno Soares Gonçalves
Bruno Soares Gonçalves is a keynote speaker on energy, nuclear fusion, science and climate change, based in Portugal and internationally recognized for his work as a researcher and energy expert. As a Coordinating Researcher at Instituto Superior Técnico and President of the Institute of Plasma and Nuclear Fusion, he combines scientific excellence with a strong presence in media and international conferences, translating complex topics into accessible insights, making him a relevant choice for corporate events and conferences in Portugal and internationally.
Full Researcher at the Instituto Superior Técnico, President of the Instituto de Plasmas e Fusão Nuclear (since May 2012) and responsible for the Engineering and Systems Integration Group of IPFN. He has led several research projects in the areas of development of diagnostics for nuclear fusion devices and of control systems and data acquisition. He is co-inventor of 4 submitted patents and co-author of one chapter in a book, in one hundred and twenty two papers published in international journals and in sixty two papers published in international conference proceedings. He has given 20 invited lectures and oral presentations at international conferences and five invited presentations at national conferences. In 2022 ANACOM-URSI Portugal Award for the best research work in the field of radio sciences. He is a member of several international scientific committees of conferences in the field, the national delegate on the Governing Board of Eurofusion and national delegate on the Governing Board of Fusion for Energy. Bruno Soares Gonçalves is member of the European Science Foundation College of Expert Reviewers (from October 2016) and Scientific Expert for the Ministero dell Ostruzione, dell Universitá e della Ricerca from Italy (since 2018).
He is also the author of the book "Nuclear Fusion in the Age of Climate Change" (freely available online, Fusão Nuclear na era das alterações climáticas (ulisboa.pt)) and, since March 2021, has been commentator in SIC Noticias (a major Portuguese news channel).
